How Much Does a Hot Tub Cost to Run?

There are many factors to consider when buying a hot tub. Including how much it will cost to run each month.

The cost will depend on a few different factors. These include the ambient temperature outside, the size of your hot tub, and the frequency of use.

The most energy efficient spas on the market cost as little as $10-$20/ month to run.

3 Key Factors to Consider

Cabinet Insulation. It’s good to make sure that your hot tub has excellent insulation to keep  energy costs down. Here are three types of good insulation:

Full Foam insulation: 1/2 pound-density urethane foam that fully insulates the space between the cabinet and the shell.

FiberCor™ Insulation:  2-pound-density 4x deeper than most foam used in hot tubs.

Layered insulation: Select models offer multiple layers of varying density foam to minimize gaps for maximum efficiency.

Dedicated Circulation Pump.  The  circulation pump helps circulate the water continuously and quietly while using only a small amount of energy.

Without a dedicated circulation pump the hot tub must rely on the jet pumps to circulate the water. Jet pumps draw more power and make more noise than a low watt circulation pump.

Insulated Hot Tub Cover. Your hot tub cover is an integral part of keeping your hot tub energy efficient. Make sure that your cover is tight fitting and has a dense foam core. It is also recommended to clean and condition your cover once a month to help prolong the life of the cover and keep it looking new!

We hope these tips help, but most of all, we hope you enjoy your hot tub for many years to come!
