Diabetes and Hot Tubs

Have Type 2 Diabetes?
Try a hot tub to reduce insulin dosages.

There have been many studies over the decades that advocate hot water therapy to relieve symptoms and improve overall sense of well being. Many with Type 2 Diabetes still are unaware that regular soaks in a hot tub can reduce the need for insulin.

In 1999, the New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a study performed on those living with Type 2 Diabetes. In the study, patients were asked to soak in a hot tub for 30 minutes a day six days a week. The temperature of the water was set between 100 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Once into the study, some of the patients experienced heat fatigue in the higher temperatures, resulting in the temperature on the high end adjusted down to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

After just ten days of participation in the study, one patient reduced their insulin dosage by 18%. Weight loss was also noted between 3-5 lbs on average amongst the patients over a three week period. Improvement in sleep and their overall sense of well being were also noted during the study.

Hopefully someone will read this today and share this info with someone living with Type 2 Diabetes who may not be aware of the benefits of regular hot tub soaking. It can certainly make a difference in their lives!
