Here’s a chance for some great stargazing this month earlier in the evening than we normally recommend at other times of the year. The Geminids meteor shower starts around December 4th, but the peak viewing opportunities are just around the corner on the 13th and 14th.
The meteors in this shower originate from the constellation Gemini. Unlike most meteor showers, the Geminids do not originate with a comet. They’re actually tied to the 3200 Phaethon asteroid, which takes about 1.4 years to orbit the sun.
Many talk about how terrific Perseids is in August (including us!), but this shower is one of the more spectacular ones to view during the year. And the good news: It’s great to try viewing this show right after sunset in the Northern Hemisphere. So, no need for a late late night for optimal viewing! You’ll get plenty of great hours to take in the show on a crisp cold night from the bubbly water of your hot tub.
Head out to the hot tub, take in a luxurious soak and witness a terrific show in the heavens to boot! It’s a terrific way to escape the holiday hullabaloo and relax.
