Work towards a healthier heart with your hot tub, swim spa & sauna
Sunday, April 7th is World Health Day. This day marks the anniversary of the creation of the World Health Organization in 1948, and each year a theme is created to focus on different health concerns. 2013’s health focus is high blood pressure.

Swimming in a Hydropool Swim Spa is an excellent way to get your minimum of 30 minutes of aerobic activity needed for a healthy heart. Increasing your heartbeat through swimming helps strengthen your heart. This type of exercise will encourage your heart to beat slower and more efficiently. A stronger heart can reduce your risk of developing heart disease, as well as help prevent heart attacks and lower blood pressure. And, if you do experience a heart attack, your doctor will advise exercise once your heart is healed to help with recovery. Swimming is a great low-impact exercise option to help you gradually increase endurance and better heart health.
Bathing in a Finnleo Infrared Sauna can also help with heart health. Back in 2001, WebMD published a report about sauna bathing helping the heart a same way exercise can. (But, please keep exercise as part of your daily routine!) In Japan, a study was conducted at Kagoshima University using dry saunas set around 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It was determined that using a sauna at this temperature at least 15 minutes a day 3-5 times per week can help improve heart function by as much as 40%! Soaking in a Hot Spring Spa will give your heart health a boost as well. Soaking in hot water helps with vasodilation, which means your blood vessels open up during a soak. A 15-20 minute soak every day will help increase blood and oxygen flow to the heart, and safely increase heart rate. (Note—if you are hypertensive, check with a doctor before incorporating a hot tub into your daily routine.)
