The best view for Perseids meteor shower? Your hot tub & swim spa!

August is always a terrific summer month for enjoying outdoor activities. More often than not, we’re lucky enough in the Northwest to be able to count on plenty of star-filled nights and fewer gray days in August than any other month.

One of the other things that make August special is the ability to take in the show that is the Perseids Meteor Shower. The popular meteor shower’s name is derived in part from the word Perseides, a term found in Greek mythology referring to the sons of Perseus.

This annual shower is definitely a stargazer’s dream come true. It offers a plethora of meteors, produces a high percentage of bright ones easier to spot in the night sky, and can be enjoyed in the beautiful August summer evenings. This year, the waxing moon will not produce minimal light, which will aid in maximum meteor viewing pleasure.

Viewers in North America could see as much as 80 meteors in an hour this year, according to astronomer enthusiasts—an average of more than one per minute! The best time to see the greatest number of meteors would likely be between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. the morning of August 12th, although any time after midnight should offer good viewing opportunities. And, if you happen to miss out on the 12th, chances are good you’ll still get an impressive show on August 13th as well.

Really, one of the best places to take in Perseids is from the peace and quiet of your Hot Spring Spa or Hydropool Swim Spa. Combining the buoyancy of water while taking in one of nature’s best organic sky shows really can’t be beat! Get up early that day, brew up some coffee or hot chocolate, and head on out to your hot tub or swim spa for the early morning event. Mother Nature will welcome you, and it will be a terrific time to start out your day!
