Time to get your hot tub ready for fall

header_repair_warrantyWith fall knocking on the door, it’s time to think about getting your hot tub ready for the coming cooler nights ahead. You owe it to yourself to get your tub prepped now so it serves you well! Here is our checklist of things to do to get ready for the season.

  • Give your tub a fresh batch of water. Normally you should drain your tub and give it fresh water about once every four months. If you’re close to that time (or already over—tsk! tsk!), get out the garden hose and drain and re-fill that tub. If you get this done by the last weekend of September, your tub should be good to go till the final week of January.
  • Get new filters. It pains us to know how seldom some folks get new filters. Filters really do a lot! They keep your water clean, and keep good flow to your tub’s circulation pump and heater so you’re always up to temperature. If you have a Hot Spring Spa with regular filters, they should be replaced every 2-2½ years; if you have a Hot Spring with Tri-X filters, new ones should be purchased every 4-5 years. And, if your tub has a single filter, it should be replaced every 2 years. Do yourself (and your hot tub!) a favor and get new filters now. And, be sure your filters are cleaned monthly to ensure proper cleaning and good flow to your tub’s equipment.
  • Get a new hot tub cover. If the cover on your hot tub is water logged and heavy, it’s not going to do much good during the winter, when it will take more energy to keep your tub heated and ready for use. A new cover will lock in the heat, keep extra dirt out of the tub, and be easy to remove when you’re running out in the cold and rain to treat yourself to a soak. Also—always condition the exterior vinyl of your cover with 303 Protectant at least once every two months. It will help the vinyl stay soft and help prevent moisture absorption into the cover’s core.
  • Replace your silver ion cartridge. If you use our EverFresh System for your tub, your silver ion cartridge needs to be replaced every four months to be sure it has the power to deal with the bacteria humans leave behind. If you’re not fond of trying to remember when you last replaced your silver cartridge, sign up today for our Home Delivery Service.
